Well I know you can get electric water pumps and fuel pumps what about PS pumps, reason I ask is because Im working on a project on a single pully system and im wondering if this would be an easier route, or should I do one loooong belt or maybe no PS and a close ratio gearbox. I dunno yet any ideas, suggestions?
Electric water pump: The ones I've seen are for 1/4 mile trips, no good for street or off road.
Electric steering: It's out there, but it's going to cost a fortune to adapt it and I'd think a nice set of chrome valve covers and a daggar handle for the dipstick would be a better place for your rebuild and customization dollar.
most little european cars run electric power stearing, the Peugot 106 was the first , they run a small hydraulic pump with reservoir built in , like they use for wheel chair lifts etc, but now the second generation electric power steering uses no hydraulics they just have a electric motors geared straight onto the rack, and the ECU for the steering is in the casting as well, it works far better than the old hydaulic system and save space and fuel.
i started a ford based tech program this year, ans we were talking about things like this, in the future you will see most production cars with electric waterpumps, fans (already there) pawersteering, and electric a/c compressors, so im sure the technology is out there, but i bet it isnt cheap.
