New Wheels & Tires==== new shimmy!!!

Ok,,, this is driving me crazy... I put about 37,000 miles on my factory wheels and tires,,(they were the 18's). I've got the 04 xcab fx4 with the 5.4l. I did the leveler kit, body lift,,, 18x10 wheels, and nitto terra grapler 325x65x18" tires. At about 50 to 60 the steering wheel shakes,,, sometimes more than others... They've changed out my wheels once,,, they still do it... The new wheels and tires balance out at zero and everything,,, but it won't go away,,, We put the factory wheels and tires on just to see if it had anything to do with the lift or leveler, but then the shakes gone,,,, Are these tires too big for this front end or what? I need help,,,

thanks,

Chris

I have the same setup and have had it since day one of owning the truck.

I think it is just something that you will have to live with......the tires are great and the wheels too.....but the steering wheel shake can be very annoying sometimes. Do you get any other vibrations?

I had a 1978 with 15"x36" Dick Cepek Fun Countries that did the same thing. It turned out to be weak side walls in the tires. I would literally have to bring the truck to a complete stop and then pull out again in order to get the shimmy to stop.

Road force balancing for all 4 aftermarket wheels and tires cured my steering wheel shake between 50-70 mph. I still have one tire that they couldent get just right so its mounted on the right rear. I still think I can feel the hop.

this is just a thought, but how about an aftermarket steering stabilizer. i can't imangine that the stock one would be able to handle a 35" tire.

Your tires can be be balanced to death, but if they are not round you'll never cure the problem. The bigger tires are tougher it is to make them round and they will also get out of round easier and faster. I've gone through this 6-8 times in the last 25 years putting bigger rubber under trucks. When they are new get them checked and replaced. When they get that way over time the only thing you can do it get them cut round. They do it to tractor trailer tires all the time..
