help please, just got this truck ,and not sure of the pattern for the transfer case, the **** is gone, so no help there, also searched the forum threads, and couldn't find anything that sounded the same, the truck is supposedly a 76 f250, 4x4, it has an automatic tranny, front and rear axles both say D61, and the transfer case tag says np 203, the shifter has two rods to a divorced case, it will move up one and back down one, no neutral posistion there, also will move to left(driver's side) and up, both position on the right will move the truck in drive, the one on the right at the top activates a lock light on the dash, the position to the left and up will not move the truck, and if you try to shift it after having it there it makes a grinding noise, like gears, all other fords I have had were all in line straight up and down, anyone know what I've got here?, thanks
Dude, sounds like a twin sticked NP-203! That rocks! If it is a twin sticked, you can select either the front axle only, the rear only, or both. A mighty nice thing that a lot of folks envy. A lot of the older Fords came with standard Warn manuals(didn't have warn stamped on em and the dials are red plastic.)
It is possible too that it is something someone added, I had a 75 with a 203 that has the shift pattern as you describe, but it had one lever, but 2 rods on the shifter like a trans shifter. If I recall, low was off on the side It's been so long since I had and drove that beast I can't recall the shift pattern for the transfer case, but it most certainly wasn't straight.
the front axle only choice would explain why the truck wouldn't move with the lever to the left and up, because I didn't have the front hubs locked in when I was trying it, could this be possible with only one lever?
hey y'all, thanks for the input, will see what else I can figure out in a few days, back to work tonight, and no time for a few days, one more quick question though, I have a 205 handy, but was married, if need be, will this transfer case adapt to my current divorced setup?
