For any of you guys that have some of the newer SDs, do you notice much difference in getting the 4.10 gears versus the 3.73 in regards to mpg and ride quality? Seems worth it for the upgrade in tow capability, no? thanks!
If you tow, the 4.10s are the way to go, alot easier pulling out from a dead stop then the 3.73s. If you aren't towing, the 3.73s would keep your rpms down at hiway speeds and give you a bit more mpgs. I run 4.10s and from seeing people post their mpgs, mine isn't off by much from theirs. From what I've read, the difference in the manual trannies between 3.73s and 4.10s is a bigger deal. The 4.10s give alot better performance.

sy5admin, what kind of mpg do you get with yours vs "theirs" with the 3.73?
Hey I was looking at an 05 350 PSD SRW 4x4. I was told I could not get one with 4:10 and that they all came with 3:73. This sounds wrong to me and I have seen conflicting info here about that. Can anyone put this issue to rest for me? I want to eventually put bigger tires on so the lower ratio is important to me.
zombie, I get right around 18mpg with a lead foot and my mods. I can push it to 20mpg with a steady foot on a long trip. I still get 12-14mpg towing my fifth wheel.
dafuz, thats not right, the one up the street from me with the v-10 has 4.30s and the diesels all have 4.10s. At least thats whats posted on the stickers.

In the SD you can get the following gear ratios:
5.4L - 3.73 Standard, 4.10 optional in some 2WD SRW applications and 4WD DRW applications.
6.8L V10 - 4.10 Standard, 4.30 optional
6.0L PSD - 3.73 Standard, 4.10 optional on DRW Only
