I bought a used 302 that supposed to have just been rebuilt. The problem I’m having is that it is lifting oil out the valve cover breather at high RPMs and it doesn’t seem to be from blow by. The oil pressure is high. It idles at 75-80 psi and above 4000 RPM it pegs the 100-psi gauge. What would make the oil pressure run this high? And could this be the reason oil is coming out the valve cover breather?
1- Verify oil type. Low ambient temp. 10W30. Mediun temp: 15W40 high temp like desert: 20W50
2- Oil level? it doesn't cause high pressure, but can explain why is going out valve cover...
3- Pressure regulator valve get stuck, you can try an external pressure regulator OR just remove engine and have a look at oil pump pressure regulator.
Thanks guys for the response. I believe I’m going to tear the engine all the way down myself and have a look at it. This might have been a quick fix and a high volume pump added. So I’m really not sure what I have. Thanks again.
just put a regular oil pump in it, ia high volume pump will suck the pan dry at high rpms unless you have a bigger aftermarket pan. i am in the process of fixing what the high volume did to my mustang
