ringing noise when cold
99 250SD, 5.4 auto 4x4, reg cab
I've been hearing a ringing noise for just a couple minutes after starting it up in the morning. it does it mostly between 1500 and 2000 rpm. no idea what it could be.

Could be some piston slap. Some 5.4L engines do this. It is more of a rattle type sound and goes away after the engine warms up a bit. This is due to Ford using short piston skirts and when everything heats up, the clearances tighten and the noise goes away. It will not hurt the engine.
