I have just purchased a 95' F-150, that has had the rear gear changed out to a 456 ratio.... the original owner did not change the front gear, because he decided to sell the truck to me... my question is this... what front ends did Ford use in the 95 F-150...?? I have been told 2 different things...
1- it is a Ford front end...
2- it is a Dana 44 front....
what can I look for on the front end to tell me exactly what it is...???
look at it. The Dana 44 has a big "44" on the pumpkin. That would be a good clue . I know that all the Broncos have a Dana 44 front axle. Is the truck mostly stock? cause with 4.56 rear-end gears he either wanted to race it or he has some 35" (or bigger) tires and he has it lifted. If the front axle is the stock TTB, I'm almost positive it's a Dana 44.
Anyway I'm sure you already know this, but don't use 4x4 on anything but really soft mud until you get those gears matched up. do it on pavement and you're going to have some real problems.
It's a 95' Eddie Bauer with a 9" lift, (6" susp. and 3" body), 39" Mickey's... not really much stock about it other than the interior and paint... truck has been incredibly well kept, and meticulously maintained....
what are some of your oppinions on who makes the best quality gears for our f-150....
Dana Spicer and Precision Gear make high quality gears. I put Danas in the front and Precisions in the rear axles of my F350. They are not cheap though...
Thanks for the info... I have verified it is a Dana 44 front end... and I think I will put the Dana gears in it... thanks for all the info... much abliged for the help...
