Vibration
Here is my problem I've noticed that my truck (94 ford ranger) would get quite alot of vibration front the front and I'm between 70 and 100 km/h. And every once in awhile my stearing would have alittle play. It doesn't all the time.
This might be related but my power stearing is quite loud.

The vibration could be wheels out of balance...you can get them checked fairly cheaply. Have you checked the stearing fluid? Mine has a very slow leak, and when the fluid gets low, it groans a bit when I first start out, then quiets down.
