I am curious if anyone has had any problems with their Tymar filter in the snow or heavy rain. I just installed one in my truck but am a little concerned about no weather protection. I get a LOT of snow where I live and don't want any engine damage because of it.
Is this something to be concerned with?
I made a TYMAR-like open element filter (I plan on ordering the one from Dale - his workmanship and such is great) a little over three years and some 60,000+ miles ago and have never had a problem in heavy rain, snow, sleet, standing water or anything else with the filter. Mine just lays on the inner fender between the brake master cylinder and the driver side battery, prety much where Dale's is but not in a clamp.

Why not just buy a clamp instead buying the whole since you basically already have it.
I've never had a problem with water or snow getting on my filter. The filter media repels water anyway. Shortly after I installed mine a few years ago I drove for 18 hours through a blizzard to get home and checked it every couple of hours. Never a problem. I have heard that the factory setup on the newer trucks will occasionally get packed with snow or ice. Anyway, no worries.

Dale includes a replacement boot (I used the factory one) and an elbow (I used a straight piece of exhaust pipe). The TYMAR looks much more professional. Mine looks rather shade tree style.
I have the Tymar intake on also, but I ordered it with the hole predrilled so I could put the Ford indicator back on the intake tube. Also I got the same boot as was factory on my truck with the kit. While talking with Dale, he told me that Ford had made like 14 different setups of the intake system from early 99-2003. I ordered a couple extra filters at the same time and leave them sit on my garage shelf just in case I need one in a hurry I have it. I think for what the Tymar cost it isn't worth the time and effort of figuring out how to fabricate the setup myself. It does make a real difference in the truck.
I should add, I used to live in Connecticut. Don't look at the location in my profile and assume I've never seen a real blizzard.
Didn't know it snowed in CT. As per my name, I live in Pulaski, NY. We got over 4' of snow last year in 1 DAY. Thats what I'm worried about - all the powder.
But I'm not seeing any horror stories popping up, so I am going to leave it on.
