I stopped today when I got done at work to inquire at a local muffler place about the cost of getting my exhaust done. His daughter had mentioned him offhand when she was showing me around town (at lunch with a friend). Anyways, I told him what the exhaust was on - 94 f150 Supercab Shortbox Dual Tank 302 - and he said about 150 dollars if we leave the catalytic converters on, and 200-225 if I pull the catalytic converters and throw glasspack's on there. Now the first one - with straight pipes and cat's - sounds pretty good. The second part surprised me, he just up and offered to do a cat-less job. Awesome if you ask me..I didn't have to shop around to find a place that would do it.
Anyways, what is going to sound better? Straight pipes with the cat's on, or glasspacked exhaust with no catalytic converters? I like the sound of straight, but I don't want "bad" sound, and I haven't really heard many 302's - most people around here with duals have Chevy 350's. Thanks!
Btw...I don't have speakers on this computer (Apple..long story) so I can't go to the exhaust clip website.
EDIT: This is for dual's..didn't specifically say that.
Forgot to mention, my plan is to go with 2.25" pipes throughout with like 4" tips out the back. I'm sure the tips will add a bit to the price, but I like the added rumble.
My goal with the sound is when I get on it (3000+ rpm's) I want people to definately know it. Below that I don't mind if its not as loud. I'm thinking the glasspacks are the way to go.
I also have to concider resale value down the road...so if I pull the cats then somebody might not want the truck. Or I could just keep them in the garage lol. Any insight?
I don't think the little 302 could pass enough gas to maintain velocity with 2.5" pipe...
Around here most 302s and even 350s run 2" pipe. Granted it won't be as loud. How long will the 4" tips be? I was helping put a lift in a Dodge with a 360 and the guy had 4 x 24" behind thrush magnums and true dual 2.25", we had to cut them off and lost alot of lows but it also got so loud that the cops nailed him within a week after he got new tips. Of course around here they have nothing better to do than give tickets for noise or speeding.
