Here I am again asking for your help. This time it is NOT for my F150, but for my wife's Expy. I have searched treads and can not find what I am looking for. Anyway, our Expy is VERY tempermental when it comes to starting. On occasion, the "Theft" indicator light will flash. When this happens, the car will start fine, but only run for one second. I usuallly have to go through a series of opening and closing the door, locking and unlocking the door with the FOB and the switch inside the door, at times, disconnect the battery cable and most of the time pray. Eventually, it will crank, but at times after an hour or two of fiddling. The Ford dealer does not have a clue. I have purchased and had programmed three different keys in the past two years.
Ok, here is what I am looking for. I want to know what I need to do to disable this dang thing. HOW do I prevent it from killing the engine when I start it? There has got to be a wire I can snip, or a fuse I can pull, or a location I can hit with a BFH.
I need some relief. My biggest concern is that this is the car Wifey drives, and she is not familiar with the voodoo I must perform to get it going. Please help a guy when he is down.
You don't have an Exxon Speedpass or anything magnetic on the keyring, do you? I've heard these can cause problems. Just a thought, hope it helps! I feel your pain, I know what it's like not to want to leave the wife stranded. That's probably why I never get to drive "my" 99 EB Exby.
Low battery, EEC relay sticking, bad PATS transciever are possible areas I can think of. Water intrusion into the fuse box can also cause many intermittent oddball problems.
Thanks to all for the input. It could be any one, or several of the problems mentioned. I will begin checking the items noted in your suggestions. Until the problem is resolved, is there a way for me to "disable" the engine kill mechanism? That would relieve my worry about having the problem "leave me or my wife stranded in the Food Lion parking lot.
The reciever from the chip in your key is behind the black plastic part of your ignition you may want to check the wire to that it may be loose, I have also heard that in some cases of cars that have the tilt steering wheel the wire harness tends to break the wires if the tilt is used a lot next time this happens try messing with the tilt on your steering wheel and see if that works, but anyway if you take off the cover to the ignition you should see a wire or wires that come from behind the key slot, that is the sensor. I know because I had a a remote start put on my expy and the installer glued a chip to the back side of the black plastic piece of my key slot and the chip came loose and I had to take it apart to glue it back on. Try tilting the wheel into various positions while trying to start it and see if that works and if it does then you know your wires on the collum are bad. Good luck
Not sure if you have fixed the problem yet, but here is my experience, different vehicle, same type of problem. OK, mine involved a car starter and those pesky theft keys. If I left the key in the ignition, and started the vehicle with the starter, it would run for about 2 seconds, and shut off. Are you using a car starter when this happens? Second, maybe the transducer thingamabob is malfunctioning, or it is not the original key. Will it do it with both keys? Just some points, and questions to try and help you out.
I was using the remote start when this was happening and when I glued the aftermarket chip back under the ignition it worked fine you may want to look at the chip to make sure it is securely fastened under the ingnition and that should fix your remote start problem, it worked for me and I haven't had a problem since. If that is not the problem then I would replace the chip receicer in the ignition.

Just a added thought on this.... can you just cut the wires and install a switch in its place? or does the computer need a speical code from the key. I don't think that the case or they would have to program the key or the car any time you replaced or added keys.
THAT is what I am looking for..... a wire to cut. I don't care if it renders the "anti-theft" unusable. I just want it to stop leaving me stranded. Any help Ya'll?

There is no bypassing the PATS system... you must repair it.
How do the remote starters work with pats ? I have been looking into the factory remote start kits from ford and the sell a module you need to bypass the PATS for remote start.
hey an old thread but it seems to fit to my problem,
does the ´92 have a anti-theft, protection ? Because, my light from the anti- theft lights up, but i have a normal key without a transponder in it. How does it works ?
My fuel pumps don´t work if that light is on.
anything else, if i close the door i hear a kind of rumble. And i can´t open the door locks with my key.
I have not theft this car !!!!!!!
