I lost oil pressure as I was driving and blew the motor. Just got the motor rebuilt at the dealer (over 5k) and 20 min after leaving the dealer, the same thing happed-all of the sudden I get service engine light, then lost oil pressure and the engine turned off. Any suggestions?
Your motor should still be under warrantee right? Take it back and have them check the oil pump. If they rebuilt your motor without checking what was the cause for the original problem, then it still could be the same problem.
Well. It has an extended warranty with Fidelity & they refused to cover the repairs or car rental expense because they say they found "sludge" in the engine. You ask them, how doe "sludge" occur, and they tell you that if you dont change the oil as often as recommended the oil looses viscosity and turns into this sludge.
I purchased the car with 40k miles and have driven it only 20k. Within the 20k miles I have changed the oil plus all scheduled maitenance at the dealer, so I have done my part and yet they refuse to pay. My position is that if they choose to sell me an extended warranty on a pre-owned vehicle and wanted to avoid risk, they should have done an inspection. Instead they took my $2000 and now dont want to be responsible. This deal has cost me $6200 to date and I still dont have my car.
The funny thing that there were 3 expedition in for the same thing...if you ask me...a work truck shouldnt be so sensitive.
All engines will eventually build a little sludge where there is low oil circulation, mainly corners of the oil pan, and other places where oil is hard to circulate. If you have performed all maintenance of your vehicle at the dealer then you should have a record of that and since you purchased the extended warranty there should be NO reason why it shouldn't still be. I wouldn't let this go. Dealers are like that. They try to get out of anything thats going to cost them money. What they do is tell you no...and see what you say. If you let it go then thats less money out of thier pocket. You have to fight them.
(Similar Story) I bought a used car not too long ago from a dealer, It had 39,000 miles on it and I DIDN'T buy the extended warranty. The day I took it off the lot it left me at a gas station, got a jump start and drove it home. Figured it was the battery and replaced it. Not a week later left me again. Alternator. Took it back to the dealer and they gave me the run around saying it wasn't under warranty and the such. Good thing New Mexico has a lemon law for used vehicles for 15 days or 500 miles. I let them know I knew the law and showed them it in writing. Needless to say it got fixed. Alternator went out 1 month later. Went back mad as heck and nicely explained that if this didn't get fixed once and for all I have find other methods of resolving this (litigation). Was fixed that same day and havn't had any problems since. Sorry this was so long but hopefully it helps. Let me know what happens and again welcome to FTE
Let me say this as a mechanic at at Ford Dealer in Wyoming. Extended warranties can be troublesome and hard to use. Where I work, I have seen numerous 3rd party extended warrenty companies refuse to pay for what I felt should have been covered. Is that the dealers fault? No. The dealer has no say on what the warranty company covers or doesn't cover. The only extended warranty the dealer is able to give any input to is a Ford ESP. Any other plans....the dealer is at their mercy. We literally call their 1-800 number and ask for authorization, give them the diagnosis, the repair required, and the cost. At that point, it is up to the warranty company. Many times the warranty company wants the transmission or engine tore down for examination and many times the mechanic receives no extra pay for that tear down because the warranty company does not authorize it. That isn't a problem if you get to rebuild that engine or transmission but many times they are damaged to the point they are replaced with rebuilts. As far as this man's particular delema....they obviously have missed something on the rebuild and the dealer should take it back and fix it.
