88 BII bogging need help

I have an 88 Bronco II 2.9 automatic. the tranny went out 3 months ago and I just got it rebuilt and installed. The first test drive on the new trany went great. But ever since it has been bogging down and blowing black smoke. I pulled the codes but did not get any help there. I have replaced: idle air control valve, MAP sensor, and fuel pressure regulator with no change. I pulled the plugs and they were black they have been replaced. Could a bad catalytic converter cause any of this. Any help would be great.

Take a look i your Haynes manual, it will tell you how to check fuel pressure. Might be a leaking injector.

Make sure they re-connected the speed sensor cable to the tranny, or transfer case. Is your engine temp gauge responding normally, maybe a stuck thermostat, or bad PCV valve. If you are getting the normal volume of exhause out the tail pipe skip the bad converter idea for now, there are many other cheaper parts to check first.

With ALL your plugs burning rich it's strange that you're not at least geting a rich O-2 code. Did you get an 11 code? Hook up a vacuum gauge and do the test for a clogged cat.

Did they pinched the O2 wire between the tranny and engine, very common.
