New stereo install.. sweet!

I was just fine with my stock stereo, however, I wanted to plug in my iPod directly... those FM transmitters really suck. I got a Pioneer DEH-P4600MP and I got the setup pretty neat. I removed the cigerette lighter (got the idea from someone here, don't remember who) and left it in the dash along with the aux cables going in the back of the stereo and only the iPod connector coming from the bottom. Looks really good, I'll post pics tomorrow or the following day. It sounds better than the stock radio with the stock speakers, I know it's not REALLY loud but better. Anyways, one this is getting me down about the stereo.... it's really BRIGHT at night. I know this isnt really a Ford question but anyone got any ideas on what to do? You can't dim the stupid thing. I really like the stereo and don't want to return it. Any ideas would help, thanks!

You have to hook up the dimmer (orange wire I think) wire and with my Pioneer Premiere unit, I had to go into the menu and turn the dimmer on. It's off by default. On mine (I have the organic electroluminescent display) I can also adjust the total brightness. The dimmer is set to dim a percentage of the current brightness so the dimmer you have the display in the day, the dimmer it gets at night.

Thanks Biggziff.. this is really bumming me out. Yeah no dimmer, arg! I'm so mad. I didn't even think of that when I ordered the stupid head unit. I'm thinking of just putting tint over the face... I wonder if that'll work.

Not sure for your LCD display, but I know hat the OEL displays have a dimming option that can be reached when the unit is OFF...same way you adjust the clock time, you have to hold down one of the buttons for a few seconds and it gives you an option menu. This is for the OEL displays though, so give it a try.

I read the manual online at Pioneer. Nothing in it about a dimmer funciton. Pioneer does this on some of the lower priced units.

Lower priced units? YOU'RE CALLING ME CHEAP? hehe jk... this is so annoying. I just got home and the light is very much distracting! I would like to get another unit but the reason I got this unit was to connect an iPod at the lowest cost possible ($190 with aux input after rebates plus all accessories to conect to f150). iPod's already cost me $600 with accessories. I'm starting to think this isnt' worth it. Maybe an fm transmitter connected to the antenna. Eh, i'll buy one at best buy give it a shot.

Hey...$200 isn't cheap!!

Return that one and move up a model or two unti lyou get the one that can have the AUX input added to it with the RCA inputs (another $30 device, but worth it)
