Help - Has anyone ever seen this problem before, and knows what might cause it or where to look. I have a 2000 F450 2 wheel drive that has a problem with an occasional stall problem. It only happens about 5 minutes after it has been started, and starts right back up afterwards. If the engine is idling, like at a light, it will completely stop, but if I am moving along, the motor just hiccups, and then continues to run. It only happens occasionally, not each time I start the truck. It happens in all types of weather (rainy, sunny, cool, warm), but it only seems to happen after the truck has been sitting a few hours. It seems not to be an electrical problem (at least with the ignition) because everything else on the dash continues to work normally(gauges, radio, etc.)
The truck has 116K miles on it, and the motor has never had any major work done to it, just fluid and filter changes as in the owners manual.
If anyone has any thoughts where to start looking, or has run across this before, I would greatly appreciate the advise and knowledge.
I forgot to mention that the truck is an auto transmission, but it looks like that is not the problem. It is also not throwing the check engine light, which I would have thought it would do with a failing sensor.
Now....where is the CPS located, and how hard is it to change? (Is there any special alignment or the like that needs to be done) and how pricey is it?
Sounds like cam position sensor. I just recently replaced mine. $100 from International parts dealer. $140 from parts store. $180 from Ford dealer. It has 1 10mm bolt on the bracket. If you slide under the front of your truck your will see it mounted in the front of the motor on the top passenger side of the harmonic ballancer. I'd take a pic for you but the wife has the camera with her
