goto autozone or some other parts store and ask them for an A/C and Fuel Line Quick Disconnector they ran about 10 bucks i think. be warned even with the tool if this is your first time, its a pain to get off
i found that after you relieve pressure i broke off the fuel filter tubes. this allowed to pull down lines and made using tool easier. the fuel filter is going in the trash anyway. the tool worked much better this way.
first, find your fuel pump shut off swithc, start the truck, then bang on the fuel inhertia switch, should hear it pop, then the truck will run for a couple more seconds, wait till it dies, then begin the work...this relieves the fuel lines of pressure.
quick disconnect? not hardly. i bought a jim dandy four way FORD fuel line tool and a fuel filter for my '95 and set out to kick the filters butt. cleaned everything up and soaked it down with pb blaster. tool didn't fit. went back, bought the correct tool... still could not get it to work. after i spent $25 dollars on the filter and tools and a bit of foul language i called up my local ford dealer. for $39.99 and 30 minutes they had it done. i like doing my own work on my truck, but FORD can do the fuel filter. just my .02
There is an art to getting the fuel filter off. The back line is the toughest. I have found that if you push the quick disconnect tool in and pull on the line at the same time it will disconnect. After you get both lines off a screw driver to spread the brackets will assist in removing the fuel filter. Getting the the new one on is a snap. Of course you do smell like gas when it is all over.
