PI Heads on 4.6L ?
I have taken one of the valve covers off in the past and have the 2 camshaft cap "clusters" that hold the cam in place (not individual caps). Also, the camshaft is bolted to the timing chain gear (not pressed).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
WHEN SERVICING CYLINDER HEADS ON A 4.6L, 5.4L & 6.8L ENGINES, PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL DIFFERENT COMPONENT COMBINATIONS. THERE ARE POWER IMPROVED (PI) AND NON-POWER IMPROVED (NPI) HEADS FOR THESE APPLICATIONS. THESE HEADS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE AND LOOK DIFFERENT (INTAKE PORTS ARE SQUARE ON THE PI & OVAL ON NPI). PLEASE USE ENGINE TAG CODE, RF NUMBERS STAMPED ON HEADS (ABOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD) AND VISUAL APPEARANCE TO DETERMINE IF PARTS ARE COMPATIBLE. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE CHECKS MAY RESULT IN ENGINE FAILURE. 1997-1998: ARE ALL NPI 1999 LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS, INCLUDING F-150, F-250, EXPEDITION/NAVIGATOR 2V: ARE ALL PI 1999 SUPER DUTY F-SERIES AND ECONOLINES: ARE NPI AND 2000 ARE ALL PI.
