problem with under the bed is you have to cross the frame on both sides. it would be easier to form a metal box to cover it inside the bed. just my opinion.
It would be much easier to do it in the bed, not much room to cross the frame under the bed. If you go under the frame it will be liable to get torn off unless you stay on the highway. The front fuel tank is also a concern under the bed or with true dual exhaust. Also you do need to protect the exhaust from things in the bed, they do get hot enough to melt or burn stuff.
I looked at crossing the frame rails last night and it would fit but hoses are running all over the place on top of the fuel tank. Rubber fuel line+hot exhaust pipe=one hot truck.
Does anyone sell 3 inch downpipes for the IDI? It stays at 2 1/4 for a couple feet after the y under the engine. It has to be choking it some.
I am going to 45 to top of the stacks and to drain water I will weld a flat piece on the bottom of the stack with a 3 inch hole for the pipe and drill some small drain holes around it. Even if it flows bad how much flow do you need with dual 5 inch stacks?
had a muffler shop fab one up for me. $220 installed, 2-1/2" down pipe to 3-1/2" tail pipe, with fitting for pyrometer. see picture in gallery. also check out this website http://www.intechpublishing.net/tns/...l_pick_ups.htm
you need to get rid of the factory crossover where it tee's into the other pipe, very poor design.
The banks y-pipe is 2 1/2" off the manifolds then 3" and they will sell the y-pipe and the 2 intermedate pipes for about $250.00. Call them at 800-601-8072 mon-fri 6am-6pm (pst) and they can give you all the details.
if u have a aux. fuel tank or can build one and have a regular bed on your truck get a piece of square or rectangle tubing and cap each end off and cut holes so u can weld the stacks onto it just run one pipe up from in the middle of the frame and cut one hole in the bed u can use your standard size exhaust up to it and if u put it exactly in the middle and weld it to the tubing it will be like a Y pipe but will be in the bed but i would suggest putting flex pipe on it so it can flex with the bed and truck but this does work and u dont have to worry about running on the outside of the frame and u only cut one hole in the bed, u can always put a spray in bedliner to cover up the tubing so u cant see it and it does sound good with just straight too, but if u need a muffler go to iowa80.com and look there they got some or just use a 24" glass pack on it.
I am thinking of doing the same idea, but changing my rig to a flat deck in the process. I was thinking of this. Let me know what y'all think:
Putting on some headers (from Stan's Headers), running two seperate pipes with a chunk of flex pipe in it to one 4x4 or 4x6 rectangular tubing running perpindicular to the truck so I can use it to hold one of the frame supports for the new deck, bringing in the two pipes from the headers fairly close in the middle, capping off the ends of the pipe and running the stacks up each end of the recutangular tubing.
Would the exhaust flow be good enough? I kinda want to avoid going from the headers into one pipe. If this is to loud, I will throw some glass packs into the stacks.
Whacha all think?
I was putting glasspacks in becuase I would imagine the rattle on the back of the window would get annoying real fast. The glasspacks should keep a better sound.
