I'm a little angry with my dealer service dept. I went in for my first oil change. When I went to the service desk to place my order I asked the service writer if the tech could install my fumoto valve instead of the regular drain plug. Also to fill the sample container from blackstone. No problem. I figured the price would be around 70 bucks. Which it was. After I got home I checked the receipt just to see the breakdown of services and I was shocked to see that they charged me $26.00 to install the valve and to get the oil sample. I know I should have checked it at the shop but it was right where I thought it would be. I also had my 1 and my 2 y/old w/ me. Is this standard or should I call the shop and demand that 26 bucks back. I mean the guy had to replace the plug anyway.
I think it's pretty cheesy of your dealership--also pretty typical. Sorry to say there's not many dealerships left that think about TRUE customer service--it's all about the dollar.
I agree, that's pretty stinky of them. I could see perhaps some surcharge for taking the sample, but for screwing in the valve in place of the drain plug - come on, that's not right.
That's exactly why I do it myself. It gets done right.
Now that you have a Fumoto valve, check your oil level. It should not be over 1/2 way between min and max. If it is, drain a quart.
ALWAYS ask about the price first! I just bought a set of tires for my trailer. 32 bucks each. OK I say. I come pick them up, they want 93 bucks. I say WHAT? they said oh yeah. 32 for tires, tax, disposal of old tire fee, stem and valve and 7 bucks each for balance. The guy said should have asked first. But then he dropped the balance fee to make peace. I was hacked, at myself because he was right.
