Question 6.0 Surge

My 2004 F250 CC 4x4 has a 6.0 with the auto. At around 5000 miles I could not help but notice that when driving at a steady speed (35 to 40 mph) it would surge forward on occasion. The surge is like a strong blip of the throttle. The surge has started lasting longer (about 2 seconds) and has occurred at 55 miles per hour now. The truck is driven only a couple of times of week and it also does not seem to matter the temperature of the motor. Any ideas would be helpful before I go to my dealer since they could never seem to duplicate any of my problems with my previous Excursion.

Unrelated question: is it normal for the ABS light to remain on during and after use of 4x4 low range? New user, please be gentle.

I had a simular problem with my 04 that started around 8k miles,, it would surge and lunge the truck forward and slower speeds, usually under 30mph, also could hear it sitting at idle. Problem was intermittant. The latest flash fixed it for me over a month ago now. There are may other posts about this issue and solutions that stem from the flash to a Wire chafeing issue, and some others that I can't think of right now. But atleast for me the flash corrected my surging problems,,, 1/21/04 build date..

Hey, I had a similar problem with my '04 250 PowerStroke last week. The engine would "surge" in the lower gears. After two trips to the dealership, they found a bad Turbo Charger solenoid. This fixed the problem and the truck is running great!

Hope this helps!

Thumbs up Its fixed I think

Thanks for all the replies and info. I drove the truck down south and when I got to the dealer it was idling very rough and surging bad. They flashed the PCM, TCM, and the FICM which was out of calibration. The EGR valve was cleaned of the carbon that was holding it open. The dealer could not duplicate the ABS problem but thought the flash may have solved it.

I am happy they found something and fixed it pretty quick (3 hrs). When I started the truck it surged a few times. As I backed out of the space the power steering stopped working for a minute. Before the service guy could look at it it started working again and the idle smoothed out.

I've put a hundred miles on it since and its run great, no problems. My mileage may be off some but its to early to really tell. Also the truck just sounds different. The truck was fixed for free but it cost me $30,000 to get the wife off the lot in a new truck of her own.

Again, thanks for the info and input. JD

You should never take the wife anywhere with you if there is a chance for her to shop while you wait.

Well, I've had the same surge, although very light and at first I thought I was imagining it. 04 F-250 4x4 CC Lariat 6.0 of course// anyhow, I had a pretty bad turbo lag at about 5000 then around 8500 and had it flashed early in the summer then the dealer (commercial truck service shop with cert. 6.0 tech schooled with FMC) rode with me with computer hooked up and said the charts were good but he felt the same "seat of the pants" lag when taking off at full throttle from a stop even after slight power braking to spool up the turbo. so, the first time the reprogrammed and it went away, then the second time they changed the turbo control on the turbo itself and now I am going back this weekend about the surge and an axle seal leak. mileage 11500.
