i did a 351w swap put a cam in it and wat not. wen i was dropping the motor into the truck, i broke the oil pressure sending unit so i put the one that i had from the 302. now that i started it, my engine light is on and i have no oil pressure. i also replaced the stock oil pump with a high volume one. someone please help
i wont get to it until tomorrow. what do u think it could be?
i am thinking i put the driveshaft for the oil pump in backwards. also, i eliminated that air emissions pump or watever it its, could it be that? of course i used a smaller belt
I would pull the distributor and a valve cover and prime the system with a drill. If you see oil coming out of the pushrods you are good to go. If not you have cam bearing that came out when sliding in the cam. Did you force the cam in? It could also be a bad pump or trapped air in the pump. I usually use petroleum jelly to pack the gears in the pump. This helps prime the pump.
no, then cam was put in extremely careful, i did it slow didnt bang or push anything with force. but i went slow enought that wen it got to a little bump, and i would stop and lift it or lower it enough to get it to slide in nice
The oil pump shaft should be the same size on either ends, but I can't remember, if not, though, ur distributor wouldn't have dropped in. Might be that the shaft fell out before u out the distributor in though. I had the happen once.
You said you changed oil pumps, make sure you have enough clearance between your oil pump pickup and your oil pan. If the adjustments are wrong you will not get any oil pressure.
i beleive that the pump was the same size as the stock one, and i didnt touch the pick up position at all. i just unbolted the old pump and put the new one in. left the pick up attatched to the motor
Ran across this for you. I hope it may shed some light on things. Make sure you measure and check and check again with these things. Personally, I'd rather pull an engine and check it all than think I did everything up to snuff and have the engine blow up.
