Alignment?? & upper intake question
1. my question is i have after market rims which are different widths would this screw up the alignment? they all look the same in appearance but i measured and they are diff
2. i broke 2 upper intake manifolds trying to tighten them down i cant figure out why they broke at the front left lip my old intake all the ears were snapped is there suppoesed to be studs that align it or what?
thats about it for right now ive replaced almost everything on this truck see pics at http://jdimassi.corral.net and go to the photo link
Firstly, are the rims the same offset? If the tires are the same size, and the wheels are all the same offset, it shouldn't matter much if the wheel size is off by a bit. Of course this isn't optimal, but if you try and make sure that the two front wheels match you will probably be ok.
Secondly, Your truck is carbureted, no? '87 351w... should be. If that's the case, what do you mean by "upper intake?" Carb setups (usually) only have one intake manifold. The carburetor does the rest. can you take a pic of the broken one? Also, if you're tightening the lower intake manifold, make sure you follow the torque pattern pretty closely. tightening one corner all the way down first can not only lead to vacuum leaks, but could also crack the intake. That might be what's going on here.
Anyway, more info please

the old intake only used to whistle a little bit ive since thrown it out and tried to put another intake on and this one cracked too and its a loud whine now so i have to get another upper and try again
As to the wheel question, the width of the wheel won't affect the alignment however if the backspacing/offset is shallower than stock, you could see some tie rub if you are running larger than stock tires. Now, if you are running much wider wheels with a similar backspacing, the stock tire size may be too narrow and you are feeling the tires roll over onto the sidewall. Not a good thing. Most tire manufacturers don't recommend a wheel size more than 2-2.5" narrower than the tire and definitely no wider than the actual tire tread width. So, if you have 10" wide wheels and only 8" of tread width you may see sidewall roll-over like I mentioned.
