Front Axel Leak

2000 X, Limited, 4X4, 6.8 Ltr V10.
Yesterday when I was rotating the tires on my beast I noticed an oil leak on the passenger side where the front axel comes out of the front differential. Can someone explain the procedure to replace this seal? Will the axel just pull out after I dis-assemble the tire, caliper, rotor and spindle housing, or do I have to open up the differential cover to release the axel? Are there any special tools needed to remove the spindle assembly and to replace this seal?
Thanks in advance for any help that is provided.

Robert

The seal that you can see on the end of the axle basically just keeps junk out of the axle tube. The seal that keeps the oil in the front diff is inside the housing, behind the cover. To replace it you have to remove both axles and then the differential carrier inside the housing. You need special tools to install the inner seals and the steering knuckle seals. It's a pretty involved job if you haven't done one before.
Don't pull it apart unless you have all the seals for the front end and the special tools to install them again.
I would start by picking up a shop manual for it.
