Anyone have an idea where water could get into the powersteering?
I have replaced the PS pump 3 times in 2 years.
I have had it to 2 mechanics and neither can figure out how the water is getting in there.
One summized possibly it is coming through the vent hole when it rains if the rain drips on it.
I keep thinking that 193,000 miles a pump every so often isnt to bad but this is getting annoying.
When we had our 87 Aerostar, the power steering just up and quit. I drove the hunk of junk without power steering until a drunk driver hit it and put it out of its misery.
That is a weird one. There is no physical connection between power steering and cooling systems. If it truly is water getting in then PS fluid should also be able to get out. Assuming no leaks from the rack, then any water would have to enter from the reservoir side. If you've replaced that many pumps due to the same problem, you've either got someone topping up with the wrong fluid or a vindictive ex.
