Hey, im new to this site but i was wondering if anyone could help me. I got a 79 ford that i need tog et inspected and the only thing i need to fix is the turn signals. They dont work. My hazards work but not the turn signals themselves. I checked all the fuses and now i think it mite be the wiring but im not sure. My bro has an 81 chevy and he said in his that the spring in the turn signal switch went out or broke or suttin. I was just wondering if anyone could help me out so i can try to get this thing inspected pretty soon. And all the bulbs are new.ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED. THANKS
Hey,
If your signals come on and stay solid its the falsher thats gone out. If you look under the dash there should be two things that are kinda silverish in color and are round with wires coming from the back. In my 73 theyre under the dash between the parking brake and steering column. If you go to a local auto parts store they can even show you the part that you would be replacing them with. If your signals work while you hold up on the lever then it isnt your falsher and its the signal cam that needs replaced and that involves taking off the steering wheel as I'm sure you can probably see. You might also want to check and see that the bulbs are good in all of your signals because I know that sometimes if one is out theyre all out and wont work.
Well i no all the bulbs are good. I bet its probabley the flasher though. I hold the turn signal switch thingy up and it comes on on the inside and shows its working but i dont know if it is outside. So its probabley the flasher. I will tell my dad and well figure out how to get a good look at the flasher and replace it. You wouldnt no by chance what a flasher costs though would you.AND THANKS FOR THE HELP
Yup sounds like its the flasher, it shouldnt be more than like three or four bucks. And even thats high balling it , I paid like a dollar or two for mine and I make it a point to buy two that way I have a spare cuz Ive had new ones that didnt work out of the box.OH and you muight waht to check that all of the connections are tight at the back or each signal and look for shoddy wiring while your doing that sometimes people hack into wire like that for other accesories.

A 79 has one flasher on the fuse box for the hazard lights.
If the T/S flasher has not be replaced previous it is located up under the dash above the left kick panel held on by a small tab through a small slot.
It should be blue in colour.
Usually this problem is caused by the Turn signal switch going bad.
Ok, heres the problem, i can turn on my right signal and push the switch up just a tad and it works, I turn the left side on and it stays solid. Would i still have to replace the flasher or would it be something else. Thanks for help!
