Anybody else have a E350...?
Any hints on how you manage to service these things considering it is so difficult to get to anything....can the heads be pulled in the vehicle?
I have a 90 E350. Everything is hard to get to. But I needed a van for work. I used to have a 79 E150 with a 5.0 engine. I always complained about the room in that, but in comparison, it has a lot. Since mine is just for work I am not too concerned about how it looks, only how it runs. I don't even have a passenger seat. I am in the process of making an access hole through the dash and down onto the top of the engine. Two screws hold the center front plastic panel on. I don't have a/c or a radio, so there is not much in the way. I will use a gasket on the panel on top of the engine with four screws to hold it in place. It should help some. I will post some pictures when I am finished.
This is my first diesel so I never pulled the heads on this or any other, so I don't have a good answer for you. Just servicing is difficult. That's why I'm doing what I am. But it will only help access the top not the sides of the engine. I understand your frustration. Good luck with your van.

I have a 1984 motorhome built on an E-350. I think it is pretty easy to work on if you remove the engine cover from inside, can't you do that on the newer ones?
I can get at the back glow plugs from inside, and the front glow plugs from the hood, and the middle ones from either end.
I haven't pulled the heads, but I think you should be able to do it. The Ford service manual should tell you.
yeah, i have a e-350. you can pull the heads, but just like almost any repair on this size motor with the van chassis, you have to put your body in some awkward positions, and be VERY patient. have an inspection mirror and magnetic pickup tool handy, and again; PATIENCE.

are you saying you have a class C motorhome with an E350 AND a diesel?
Oh that's right. i have seen it before. you are lucky. i just picked up my Class C 2 days ago. the 460 is nice, but a diesel would have been really nice.
Don't remind me
i have not taken it on a trip yet. i know of GMC rv owners who boast of 9 to 11 MPG. i would be happy with 10MPG, but deep down, i know that is just a pipe dream.
