I am a new member. I have a 01 F150, Supercrew ,5.4 ,2 WD, with the 4R70W auto trans. I have a problem with my gas mileage has slipped more than 2 mpg. I have just tuned up, with new plat plugs, and have added a K+N air intake system and cat back MagnaFlow exhaust. I drive my truck slowly and carefully without regularly sticking my foot into the pedal, so this isnt the cause. Ive had my truck checked for hidden codes and/or other engine possiblities with negative results.
It appears my trans could be the problem as it is slipping I think. Each of my gears lately seem to take longer to shift. 1st gear is at about 30 mph, 2nd at 40, 3rd at 45-50, and 4th at 55 or higher alot of times. I had a trans flush done with no improvement.
I cant find any new thread posts on your website about trans problems on the 97 to 03 F150, but I have heard other horror stories about F150 trans problems.
Can these new trans be adjusted? Or am I looking at a rebuild? Which is better rebuilding via AAMCO or other, or getting a used or rebuilt trans?
Otherwise I like my truck and dont want change to another one.
PLEASE REPLY.I am sure someone out there has had trans problems on their F150 too.
Hi 4srco, welcome to FTE. I am going to transfer this thread to the transmission forums and see if you can get better help there. It's very unlikely someone will come up here and post since most of our users are forum specific. Good luck with your tranny problem.
