I'm new to this forum, and have a couple questions regarding my 60 F-100.
Last fall, I pulled the gas tank out and cleaned 43 years worth of accumulated crud from it. At that time the gauge & sender worked fine. After putting the sender back in, I turned on the key, and the gauge worked fine, but 15 minutes later, the gauge wouldn't come up. I cleaned and re-tightened the electrical connections, but got no response. I'm getting tired of guessing how much gas I've got, so it's time to fix it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Next question: My brake master cylinder started leakind down just recently. No external leaks, just dirt in the system I guess. Can a guy rebuild these? Or I need to replace it?
Hey Sixty - My guess on the fuel tank sender is that you have a bad ground between the sender and tank. No reading from the sender would indicate that.
Sorry, can't help you on the brake master.
If you can hone the cylinder walls and there is no pitting after honing you can easily rebuild your master cylinder. Kits are available from the vendors. Better check the wheel cylinders while you are at it. best. himmelberg
You can rebuild the master and the wheel cylinders too for that matter, but for the cost involved, I replaced the master and the wheel cylinders. My wheel cylinders had become the residence of dirt dobbers or something else, anyway, they were probably too far gone to rebuild. I went to National Parts Depot (NPD) and replaced the wheel cylinders for about $35 total.
Just a thought, but if its gonna go, it's gotta whoa
you can get the master cylinder rebuild kits from o'reilly or another auto parts store, they are relatiely inexpensive and simple to install I did the ones on my 60 f-100 when i was 15
