I have to get me one of these monsters. Being able to tow 20tons is nice. Here is a picture I found. It sits 108inches off the ground. That is nice for an everyday driver. Reminds me of the F650
Yeah. i saw an Article in USA TODAY about 'em. Cool to be sure, and you bet it will lead to a whole new level of Street Legal Monster Trucks. They won't be out 3 days before someone has one lifted about 3 feet sitting on some 54" military tires . But for me, that is so far outside what I could use or need, or even want, I will only want to watch from the sidelines.
However, the ability to tow that 60ft toy hauler that will surely be made now would be cool....
Caught my eye too. However, don't lose sight of the fact that these are commercial trucks. Gussied up they sure look neat and all but remember what they are made to do. The reason it can carry 12,000 pounds and pull 20 tons is because they are designed to be snow plows, dump trucks, concrete trucks, etc. If your idea of a good time is having a concrete mixer for a daily driver then go for it.
I was also told that anything having airbrakes means it is CDL. I don't know if there is a cdl for people who pull those big 5TH wheels or if it is a full blown CDL. I am curious if anyone knows the real deal on this. This is just in case I win the lotterry and can go out and spend $90,000 on a modified F650
You can buy these low-pro diesel trucks now. Great for towing and CDL is for combined weight. If you buy a Volvo semi truck and have a trailer....all you need to do is have a place to eat, store food, cook food and it can be titled as a Motorhome. Place Not For Hire on the side of the truck.
Many people have horse trailers with living quarters. The trailer is considered a travel trailer so the combined weight is under CDL. Many race car trailers have a living quarter so it is considered a travel trailer.
A combined truck and trailer is what requires the CDL. If the tow vehicle or trailer has a living quarter in it, that is not considered in the combination.
