Glow plug lite on

I have an 83 with 6.9 L diesel. Recently the light "Wait to start" turn on and off itself when driving. I noticed that sometime I just apply the Emergency brake then release it then the lite gone. Now it's stay on all the time. Does it mean my glow plug are bad?
The van still fire up easy when start in cold.
TIA

It may be just the GP timer cycleing is it right when you start up or after you have been drivign for awhile? It is normal for the glowplugs to cycle for up to 2 minutes after starting. if it is after you have been driving for awhile then you may have a timer going out or a short. i recomend a manule switch for the glowplugs if your timer has gone bad it is simple to hook up. tel me if you want the diagram.

hi scott - i'd be interested to see the diagram; i've seen a little about this in the posts. what is the advantage of having the gp's on a manual switch other than timer that's gone south?

The manual switch gives you more control of the glowplugs. you can cycle them when you want. also a new timer goes for about $200 give or take i put a manual switch in for about $10.00.
Here is the link to the diagram.
