Using older microtuner (2 setting model) in 2002 7.3?
Hi-
I have a chance to pick up a older superchips microtuner for the 7.3 PS. This is the older 2 setting tuner, i think it has 50/80 hp settings.
Anyhow, will this work ok in a 2002 powerstroke? I'm not sure when the older tuners were burned, so I am just concerned about it working 100% with my 02.
Up until this weekend thats what I've been using since my truck was new. Never had any issues with it, worked great. I'm playing with some other things now and not using the SCMT. You will like it alot, but its addicting, cause you'll want more after that.
I dont have gauges (yet), i don't tow, just use it for running around construction sites and stuff. I was curious if I have to leave it in the lower power mode all the time, or can i run it in the 80HP mode if i drive it in a "normal" fashion and don't tow.
If you are going to put your foot in it and hold it there, you will see 1300+ pretty easy in your exhaust temps just getting up to speed in the 80hp mode. It comes on pretty fast. The lower setting won't get that high that fast and is fairly safe. Your best bet is to get a EGT gauge, pretty simple to install and then go out and play. With my air intake and 4" exhaust, I hit 1200 pretty easily in the high setting and have to watch. You will like the power it brings on and want to use it, get the gauge as soon as you can.
