I'm looking for front seats that give a more upright seating position. Is the laid back seating position due more to the base of the seat or the seat itself, or a combination of both? Anybody swapped in other seats? I'm talking seats from other Ford products (i.e., junk yard stuff) not new aftermarket stuff that costs lots of money (the object is to still have money left over for beer). I've got a good cheap (relatively) source for Ford seats but don't want to spend the time and money if I would still end up with the laid back seating position.
Well, I thought about the washers. But at first glance, it seems like I would have to add quite a bit to get the seat back upright like I want it. Also, it would tilt the bottom (horizontal) part of the seat downward in front and I don't really want to do that as I'm happy with the way that the bottom part is oriented. But, if the washers did work, I could then afford to buy Fat Tire instead of Bud. That alone should be enough motivation for me to get more creative with washers.
My wife has a hard time too, with the seating position and the location of the gas pedal. After trying similar measures for her, my "high tech" solution was to put a brick on the floor by the gas pedal. We carry one around under the front seat just for her. i have a related seat problem. the driver seat on my 91 is worn out on the outboard side. i took it out of the van and reinforced the material in the seat. while it was out i bent it forward a tad . problem solved for a while. if you find a good replacement let me know. i almost took mine to a shop for repair, but cost was too much
There are currently several used seats from later model Aerostars on eBay for sale. Just go to Ebay.com and type aerostar in the search box. Also you may find a few replacement cushions/covers at the local boneyard.
