trany swap

I posted a question about swapping my 3 speed auto out of 74 F350 with a 390 coupled to a C6 with either a 4 or 5 speed manual. I made a mistake of listing it as a 4 or 5 speed automatic that I wanted. So, is it still possible to place a manual trany in this truck without too much hassle. I am running 3:73 gears right now. Would these have to be changed up or are they good. I will be doing some hauling but nothing serious, at least not yet. Thanx.

No need to change the rear end gears. You will have a much easier time finding a 4speed manual to use with your engine than an overdrive auto. An NP435 or T18 4-speed will go behind that engine with the right bellhousing. Fortunately they both use seperate bellhousings. You will need a truck with a manual tranny to get the parts from for the clutch pedal and linkage and cut a hole in the floor for the shifter too. You may need to lengthen the driveshaft as well.

How do I tell what kind of manual transmission I am going to be looking at? I am also running a 2 piece driveshaft right now. I suppose that will have to be changed?

RJ, I would like to know why you are wanting to make this change. The output would be the same for either.

is anythang wrong with your trans? or do you just want a man. with more power? the reason i'm asking is that i'm trying to do that swap just in reverse. and maybe if our trans. can interchange we can work somethang out. check your door tag for the trans. code. i have a T18
