#4 misfire

Alrighty...where to start? A month ago or so, the EGR valve was causing the "check engine" light to come on. So we had the computer checked and then bought a new EGR valve from Ford and installed it. I forgot to reset the computer by unhooking the battery, but I knew why the check engine light was on so I never messed with it. Then a month after that, last month, I was going on a 600 mile round-trip, 300 of that (the trip back) was with a 16ft trailer with a 2,000lb pressure washer and pump hooked to my truck. Well once I had delivered the trailer and gone back to my normal driving, a week or two passed and then I could feel the engine miss a beat. Then it progressed to the truck kind of.."stuttering" when driving at speeds 55mph+. So thats when I was worried. So then it got to where I would be driving around 30mph or so and the truck would do that. So I had the comp. checked again and it said that the #4 cylinder was mis-firing, which I knew thats what the stuttering was, and also that the EGR valve was not functioning properly. Well, I didn't install the EGR valve myself, so I checked it to make sure everything was in place...It turns out that one of the bolts that hold the EGR valve in place, the head broke off, and the guy that installed it just left it in, and so the valve is attached only by one bolt...which I'm sure is not helping matters. So, I bouht some of that crap you can get to put in your gas tank that cleans the fuel injectors, I bought three different ones actually and put all three in, the stickers said they could be mixed, so I figured "why not."

Anyway, it is a 1997 F-150 Lariat with a 4.6L Triton V8. Just wondering if anybody else has had this problem or knows anything about it. I get the oil changed every 2,500 miles, so I don't do the oil but I do everything else myself, so I do take care of my truck, so it's kind of a shock to me that this is happening. Although it's not so much of a surprise at 97,000 miles, heh I kind of expected something to happen, but not this. I'm hoping that this injector cleaner stuff works, I really don't want to have to take my baby to a shop. Let me know your thoughts and all that. Thanks.

I don't know much about your year model (or any year for that matter.) My 2001 4.6L had the #2 missfire last week. I replaced the #2 COP and all was well!!!

Mine was $48.00 at Advance Autoparts. While I was in there I went ahead changed the sparkplug also.
