Follow-up to Code 124 and code 157 problem

After clearing these codes a week ago, I checked today and code 124 (throttle position switch voltage too high) has returned. As I understand it, the TPS is a potentiometer type unit. Can anybody tell me how to check it? Is this something I can pick up at Pep Boys? The Haynes manual tells me to scribe the position of the switch onto the throttle body so it can be replaced in the same position from which it came. Does this mean that a replacement switch would have to be "set up" with a meter? If so, how?

had a similar problem with my '93. Before going to too much trouble try removing the rubber connector to the air plenum and spray the butterfly that the TPS connects to. I found mine was all gummed up and was holding the TPS open slightly.

If this doesn't work Autozone can give you a small booklet that describes how to test it.
