battery light/check engine light
1st. My battery light comes on alot lately. I had new batteries install in the spring and an alternater 2months later. I have cleaned the terminals on both batteries. On Sept 10, the gauge was also acting funny. Instead of the needle hanging over the positve symbol in the gauge it was near or on the negative symbol. The only thing that I was running was the AC and that has never affected the gauge before. On top of that the gauge was showing a drop in charge the longer I drove. In other words, when I started it was almost where it should read, but by time I had driven 45 minutes in fair traffic, it was over the negative symbol. It was after this drive that the terminals were cleaned and a volt meter was used to check the charge. it was running between 14 - 14.5. Any thoughts?
2nd. My check engine light and gas pedal have been acting up while the above is happening. here is what is going on. While driving, as you let off the gas pedal and shift, everything is fine. When you reapply the pedal, you have NO throttle response and the check engine light comes on. Release the pedal and the light goes off and you regain throttle response. My first thought is that the switch is going bad (this is a throttle by wire not a linkage setup ). Our shop mechanic said and I quote him, "you probably have a vacumm leak or a bad pcv valve". He is an idiot. Any thoughts on the problem (and I dont mean the mechanic, ha ha) ? Could both of the problems be related? Kurt
