friend had rebuilt heads put on his truck about 6 years ago by a person. before this truck was running fine except it had a crack in the heads. so he had rebuilt ones put on. the person doing the work put every things back together and never could get it to run right. then he left town, and truck had been sitting since then. I have lloked things over and to start i had the carb rebuilt , plugs, cap, rotor, ign module (mounted on dist) computer checked for codes (ok) have checked compression (all normal) have diconnected exhaust at the header pipe thinging maybe converter pluged. The truck is running on 4 cylinder. In checking this I had truck running and removed each plug wire I removed number 1 and motor reacted, removed 5 motor reacted, removed the next 2 cylinder and no reaction, removed the next 2 and got a reaction, removed the next 2 and no reaction.
any one with thought Please help
thnk
Do you have spark on the bad cyclinders? In otherwords, is it a lack of spark to the cyclinders or a compression problem keeping the head change in mind.
I would think it is either an ignition pickup problem or a stuck valve, bad head gasket problem allowing bleedover between cyclinders though I doubt the last one or you would have other symptoms.
Check for spark at the cylinders that you think are misfiring. Next double check the firing order. Its real easy when doing cap or wires to cross them. Make sure you have a book that has the firing order. If that checks out then Maybe the head gasket or the Valves!!!!!
If the wires are right and you got a spark at all the plugs, pull the valve covers and start checking the rocker arms. May be a lose one or a nut missing.
