I've always liked the sound of a glasspack on a I6. Id try a similar product called the Dynomax Race Bullet. It has an allumized case and I hear a ceramic interior. They make a 16" version and one that is a little longer. I plan on putting one on my truck with the 460. Putting a flowmaster on would do little in the way of performance and comes with a hefty price ($82) compared to the race bullet($35)
So what would you suggest i do, buy a whole system to turn it into dual or just buy a muffler and have a place in town make a dual system for the muffler?
I was cheap, I went to Advance and bought the Walker over-the-axle pipe in 2 1/4" (stock) and some 2 1/4" straight sections, and a 27", 2 1/4" glass pack, I think it was Thrush. I welded a couple of sections of the straight pipe with the flared end out into the glass pack, and added and welded some more sections to one end of that until I had the right length to slip over the end of the cat and into the end of the over-the-axle pipe. I think the glasspack was about $20, the over-the-axle was $35 and I probably used 3 $5 sections of straight pipe. Total cost $65-$70 and I think it sounds really good for an old truck.. Others will disagree. An I-6 definitely has that "dump truck" sound, it will never sound like a V8.
I have 3inch single pipe into a 3inch Flowmaster, exiting in front of the passenger wheel. It sounds pretty good. It has a real hollow sound at idle and kinda sounds like a diesel(Poor Mans Diesel) when accelerating.
I have a Cherokee with an I-6, that I've been experimenting on with different mufflers. Believe it or not, the one that had the best sound was a Flow Tech "Red Hot" glasspack. It has a nice low burble, and is not too loud. The throttle response was also improved, and the mpg should increase slightly. Not bad for under 20 bucks.
