Clutch Woes

Long time reader of this forum just never had a need to post before.

I got a 2001 f150xl 5spd 4.2l, last night coming home from a nice meal out i was going to shift into 4th and suddenly the clutch pedal went to nothing and having to stay in 3rd all the way home. Did some reading up this morning check the truck out. drove it around a couple times.

Somethings i found were the clutch fluid level was non existant, so i filled it up. i found some from what looks to be clutch fluid on the bottom of the tranny. the clutch needs to be pumped 4 or 5 times before i can shift gears but its only every so often when im driving. and the piston going into the master cyclinder is making wierd noises when i checked out underneath the dash.

Would it be safe to say its either a master or slave cyclinder thats screwed on it?

If you found fluid on the bottom of the tranny I would say it is the slave cylinder. You can take the rubber plug off of the bottom and see if there is fluid around the clutch and inside the bellhousing. The reason you have to pump up the pedal a few times is that there is air in the system.
