custom door panels?

Has anyone made aluminum door panels for these trucks? if so, how did you hide or integrate the latch handle on the door? I am restoring a 78 crew cab so i need to make 4 of them. The door handels are no problem it's just the latch handle will stick out quite a bit. Any feed back would be much appreciated.

Custom door panel options

I, too, have a crew cab. The rear door are the problem. I think I could fabricate some door panels, but I do not know how to handle the smaller arm rest for the rear doors. Please photo and post any examples you may find. I was hoping to find someone who makes a formed armrest which could be incoportated into a custome door panel. I will continue to search.

I have seen people use a block of hardwood and carve out an arm rest/handle. You can also carve out the lower part and upholster the upper part with some padding. Use the original arm rests for a pattern.

like torque1st said, i carved a set out of hard wood for my old truck.... never did finish the pannels, but it did work.. although, 1/2" plywood made the door a little heavy

I used a 1/8" thick piece of masonite and sheet metal screws for the panel. For the door handles, I used horse shoes with a piece of steel in the middle to bolt it to the lever. Very clean and straight forward, but not exactly "factory" looking.
