I hope this is in the right place. I have a 78 f250 crewcab 4x4 that I would like to lift 4in but I am not sure which kit to go with. I have looked and looked for the info on all the kits but its been slim. To my knowledge skyjacker, superlift, and rough country make a kit for my truck but I do not know what they have in them. if you have one of these kits could you tell me what it included, what you had to purchase addicionaly, and how it rides. I have air bags in the rear so i am not concerned about losing load carrying capacity I just want the one that rides and handles best. Also I would like to get 6in springs for the rear and get a shorter rear block for less axel wrap. For the front did you have to purchase steering corrections, I am planning on doing crossover steering as well. Any info would be helpfull.
Skyjacker makes the best riding kit. Rough Country is OK but I really recommend you avoid Superlift. If you go with the Skyjacker system you'll get front and rear springs vs. their basic lift which will only give you blocks for the rear. I know they do include U-bolts and thought that the system also included shocks but you'll want to call and double check whoever you're buying them from on that. NTW's site specifically says 'no shocks included'.
For a 4" lift you can get away with a drop pitman arm to correct your steering. I would really recommend you go to crossover instead though, much more effective for lifted trucks in general. I have a buddy who went with a 6" lift on his truck and the drop pitman arm wouldn't work for him so he was out $60 and then had to convert to crossover.
i purchased my 4" suspension system from skyjacker several years ago and have no complaints. the ride is excellent. the system then included new front and rear springs, all ubolts, and bushings. i had to buy an off-set drag link and shocks. well worth the 1200 bucks.
I had 6" Skyjacker kit in 79 SUPERCAB SHORTBOX, TRUCK RODE BETTER BUT DIDN'T STEER WORTH s___ , I had Drop pitman and drop draglink, would recommend crossover instead, ONE OF MY 4WHEELIN BUDDYS SNAPPED A 60 STEERING KNUCKLE WHEN HE USED A 3" LIFT BLOCK UNDER THE STEERING ARM, THAT WAS A LENGTHY TRAIL REPAIR.
mine are said to be the same rate as stock. the only downside is that with a greater arch your truck will sag (until it hits the load spring) with a heavy load. once it hits the main load spring it doesn't drop any more. my lift system came with 4"leafs for the front and 2" leafs for the rear. this is said to level the truck.
