Question Electrical Problem has fried my nerves

About one year ago I stopped at my daughters house to fix her dishwasher. The repair was sucessfull but when I returned to my 1987 Ford Ranger XLT, 2.9 liter, fuel injected, 5 speed manual tranny that was running the best it had since I rebuilt the motor about 1 year previous. When I got in and turned the key I knew there was a problem, the fuel pumps didn't activate. I proceded with the idea that I had a fuel pump problem which soon led to the fact that I had no secondary voltage at all. I checked the inertia switch, the ignition switch, the ignition control module, both the relays, fuses, fusable links, the brain, brand new distributor(long story), ground straps, I purchased a code reader, verified that it worked on the mustang but the Ranger won't give up the codes. I'm quite sure that the reason the code reader won't work is because of the problem with the truck. I'm at a loss, any ideas. I put whoever gives me the answer in my will!! Thank You very much. Ron

Do you have spark? This could help isolate the problem.....

Sounds like you may not have power to the ECU, a common cause is the little ground wire at the battery to the radiator support.

The smaller ground coming off the battery goes through what looks like a round fuse housing but is actually just a connector as far as I can tell then disappears into the wiring harness. I just cut out this connector and wired it direct. Didn't help.......?

Have you made sure that you have voltage on the red wire at the EEC power relay with key at run?

You're welcome. According to the EVTM heres what you should see at the EEC power relay. With ignition on or off 12 volts from the fuse link on the yellow wire. Key on there should be 12 volts from the ignition switch on red/light green & 12 volts on red. The black/light green is the ground wire that Ken mentioned. If you have the voltage on the yellow & red/lightgreen but not red, try grounding black/light green. If you still dont get 12 volts on red, replace the relay.

Just took a closer look at the wiring diagram & see that the red wire might be dark blue at the relay?? Not sure why it shows 2 colors for the same wire.
