Post Is '05 5.4L enough?

Hi,
I am considering purchasing my first 250SD super crew short box. I have looked and test driven 04s with all 3 engine configs. I am tending to go gas. I don't do much towing and little long haul driving. The truck will be mostly used for light duty hauling and around town. Although I know I would love the power of the new V10, I think it may be overkill for me so I am starting to think about the 3 valve '05 5.4 V8. I found the '04 5.4 to be "anemic" in this vehicle, but I am hopeful that the iproved '05 version is much better. No dealer's around here have any for test driving yet. I welcome feedback from others re: power, fuel economy, etc to help me with my decision. Thanks.

Yes the 05 5.4L has more power but the 05 truck is up to 800 pounds heavier. Seems like a wash to me. If you really aren't going to tow much over 6000 pounds then the V8 will do. Be warned though resale will be tough.

I disagree with the tough resale value of the V8. Around here (MA), most trucks I see are either V8 or Diesel. I suppose it depends upon where you are.

If your looking to race F150's and RAM's with the fancy extra's, you'll be disappointed. If you want a good everyday big truck with enough power to get around town, the V8 will do, especially the new 3v with the extra horses.

I own an '04 F250 CC, and although I'd like better throttle response (I have a bit of hesitation from a standing position that I haven't figured out yet), there's sufficient power for getting around town and hauling rocks, mulch, dirt and the like. I won't win any races though.
