The colder it is outside, the more you are going to want some way to boost the idle speed a bit (to 1200 RPM or so) if you plan to leave it idling for an extended time.

I think Ford has an AIC installed for around $ 125.00. Plus there are some after market available.

Funny...The service advisor I spoke with last week advised that the 6.0 is sensitive to idle time. Mentioned try not to exceed 15 mins. But, lead certified diesel tech just installed one on his truck.

BTW: Choctaw Bob Idles his all the time...among others know. Landscaper, contractor, friends of mine.

The reason my fuel mileage on my black X is not up to par - though acceptable to me - is that I have a remote start and do not LIKE the Texas heat invading my X

I would say mine has idled a MINIMUM of 20 minutes or so EVERY day for the last 18 months and 33k + miles....

And will put my engine performance up against most

(Oh, and I guess that predator and the 100 extra hp might have something to do with the mpg too )

HEY ! That's it !!!!

all the "bad" things that accumulate from the long idle are BLOWN out by the serious short burst of HP

ASE - Not sure if you're wanting to get an Aux Idle Controller, but if you don't want to spend $125 (I've heard as much as $200) for a Ford one, you could make a homemade one.

You could also ask cookie88 about it, he made a nice one.

PS - I love how John never fails to share how much he absolutely LOVES his X

The Ford remote start kit has a 10-minute timer built in. If you don't engage the key, it shuts the vehicle after 10 minutes.
Secondly, if you live in the People's Socialistic Communist State of California, there is a new law by the Air Resources Board (ARB) that now makes it against the law to idle a diesel engine more than 5 minutes, or you must pay a $100 dollar contribution (fine) to the communist government there.

Soon, diesels, engines which are more efficient than gasoline engines, will very likely be banned and outlawed in California. All shipping by truck, rail and cargo vessels will grind to a halt (they are all diesel). California will shrivel up and fall into the ocean. It's a wonder they have not outlawed electricity and just gone back to hunting animals, but they have pretty much outlawed hunting. This is why they believe food comes from grocery stores, but you can only sell the "organic" kind. But with no trucks ... no food.

Then ... the rest of the country will finally be able to live in peace, rid of the wart on our behind (known as California), which is so "anti-truck".

I already did. Along with a bunch of others, apparently who have settled in the Austin area. It's beginning to remind me of Bezerkley.
