Is there a modern 4 speed overdrive automatic trans that can be used with the old FE (361, 390) engines?? Straight bolt up, or is an adapter needed?
Or am I stuck with running a C6 and turning like 3200 rpm on the expressway?? Yes I know I could run 2.5:1 gears in the rear end and cruise at a decent rpm on the expressway, but I'd also like to be able to move, not crawl, away from a stoplight.
Doug, The answer is no to your question. Which FE are you running. I have a 3.00 rear in my truck and like it pretty good. I pull a 18 ft. car hauler with F150s on the back every now and again. I haven't done a check empty but did get 13.9 pulling the trailer empty down near the coast on very flat land while maintaing 70 mph.
Huh - Why Not I'm just one of many that have AOD - FE

I know this is an old thread but I was searching for something else & saw this. I don't want to be a pain- but geez, there must be 4 - 5 companies now offering an adapter to do AOD behind FE motor, mine came from Lentech who has been offering for 3 years. Whats wrong with wanting to run 3.55 rear gears and turn 2300 rpm at 75mph?
