Cool what motor should i use.

I recently purchased a 1953 f100 it had a 1965 oldsmobile 425 big block. after cleaning that up i noticed the block was cracked by every frost plug. so now that i am scrapping the BIG BLOCK i was wondering what would be the best and easiest engine to put back in.
thanks for the help. Joel

If you want it to just bolt in, just about any Buick/Olds V8 will work. They were pretty smart when they built their motors, the 225 V6 on up to the 455 all use the same sort of motor mount in the same location relative to the Transmission, and the same bellhousing pattern. This is the main reason that I set up my toys for BOP motors.

So basically your bolt in choices are:
Olds 260, 307, 330, 350 or 403 small block.
Olds 400, 425 or 455 big block.

As well as the buick and most of the pontiac versions of those motors.

Joel,

Welcome to FTE! Sorry to hear the bad news about the cracked block. A few factors to consider and info we could use to help: What tranny do you have and do you want to keep it? Do you want to stay with a BB or is a SB a possibility? Is a motor and trans swap an option? The more info we have about what you have and what you'd like to accomplish, the better we can answer and give our comments/suggestions!

Thanks!
DS

motor options

i recently posted my big block incident. now i have been doing some thinking. i have a 1972 mercury montego with a 351 w and a c4 tranny. now the car is at my fathers house and he is going to do some measuring, but is it possible if i cut the frame on the montego will it line up to the f100. so than i would have power steering , A/C and dics brakes up front. is this an option?
thanks

Joe,

To replace it with another GM engine might be easier, but if the budget will stand it, going with a Ford drive train would be better. A Ford in a Ford will also increase the value of the truck should you decide to sell it...
