I am trying to figure out exactly what is going on when you get white smoke from not enough fuel. I don't understand. Do you know why you would get white smoke from not enough fuel?

Update:

Got out the Glow Plug that was stuck...just kept upward pressure against it while unscrewing and it popped out! Whew....
Was checking the injectors again and kept getting air out of the back passanger injector nut each time I cracked it loose..bought a reman injector but it didn't help....today I was messin' with it and moved around the return lines and fittings and the rig smoothed out and stopped missing and smoking...reved the engine up and it started missing again...moved the lines again and it smoothed out....though there is no fuel leaking I'm gonna assume the return lines are sucking air and order a kit...who has the best quality/price...anything I might be missing here?

Don't know why you would see a smoothing out by moving around the fuel lines. Have you checked the lift pump? It might be part of the problem. Maybe that is where air is getting in?

I've looked at the lift pump, there are no signs of leakage..I have a new lift pump, think maybe I should go ahead and install it?

If there's no sign of leakage, and it's putting up enough fuel and pressure should be fine. I replaced one at about 200,000 miles, and it was leaking. I doubt that you're getting air in the system through the return line...but I could be wrong. On the otherhand, since you have a lift pump and the one you have on now has quite a few miles on it, it might be worth eliminating the lift pump as the cause of your problem by exchanging it. Your call. Try rousting up Horton Racing here on FTE for further guidance.

If the air isn't going in at the return lines or lift pump, can anyone suggest where it might be coming in from? Everytime I crack the nut on that one injector I get air bubbles before it makes the engine run rougher and starts squirting fuel...the others make a difference even before fuel starts squirting out....I have replaced that injector with a rebuilt one...thanks for all the advice...

I ran a clear line from the fuel line that goes to the lift pump from the tank to an electric pump on the fender, then to the filter, I can actually see all the air mine gets in the system, also had a clear line from the top of the IP to the #1 injector I think.
