76 fe 410 f100 4x4. There are 2 connectors to the module. 1 connector has 2 conductors ...the other 4. The one with 4 connectors is reading 8 volts on all 4. The battery voltage is at 12. Is there a proplem here?
Make sure you are getting voltage at the coil + and the red wire going to the module with the key in run.
You can take your meter, hook the one lead to ground and the red lead to the coil negative, and crank the engine. The meter should bounce up and down. If not, I would try replacing the module.
can anyone tell me if there should be power at both wires from the firewall to the module?, have it at blue wire with red stripe, not at the other,no fire from coil is my problem, practically all new parts everywhere under the hood,76 f250,360
Disconect the two wire plug from the ignition module. Plug with red and white wires.
Disconnect the coil plug.
Attach an ohmmeter to the (+) Batt. terminal of the coil and the red wire on the harness side of the module plug.
The resistance should be 0.8 - 1.6 ohms.
If resistance is more or less than above the resistor must be replaced.
Ignition Coil Voltage check:
Ignition switch to "run" position
Attach voltmeter (+) positive lead to the coil (+) batt terminal
Voltage should be 6-8 volts
If voltage is high or low then check ballast resistor.
