Adding an Auxilliary Heater

89 Aerostar, 103k miles, 3.0l engine.

Bought this van when I lived in a warmer climate. Now living in northwest Ohio and it takes forever to warm up the rear of the van.

I know you could get this van with an aux heater for the rear. I suppose the parts would be available at the scrapyard to convert it.

Has anyone ever done this conversion? I would be interested in hearing your impression on the difficulties and success with the conversion.

Adding an Auxilliary Heater

I have a 93 4.0 with the aux heat. Looking in the Ford factory book at the 3.0 there is not much diff. There is a lot to the system, the blower, front & rear contols, duck work, heater, metal lines, rubber hoses, interior trim etc. I just put in new hoses for the front that connect into the metal aux lines. The only people that makes the heater hoses for the front is Ford. I talked to an engineer at Gates Rubber Co. and they eventually will put out the hoses but they have to design & tool up production. At a a very good discount they still were $120.00 from fordpartsonline.com. I will fabricate my own replacements for the back. Even if you found all the goodies to change over, do replace the hoses & be prepared for the price. My two cents worth. Good luck.
