rear window defogger broken

Work car (taxi), not my '99 Ranger, has one wire and clip broken off rear window defogger. Other one is still O.K. It is about 12 horizontal elements with insulated wires on each end. Can this be soldered back on? Shop boss told me it's unrepairable and new rear window required - at $700 no way. Looks like wire and clip could almost be glued back onto grid. Any easy fixes?

Toyota has repair kits for the grid terminals. They are just a terminal with some low heat solder on the back of them. You press the terminal onto the grid and then press a soldering iron onto it until the solder melts then let it cool.

Back in the good old days, there was no such thing as a rear window defroster. As long as the windshield one worked, you were good to go.

defogger

Mine still sparks pretty good when I turn on the defogger and hold the wire and terminal up to the pad. By the way, I found out by searching that Permatex makes an adhesive just for this purpose. They describe it as a conducting adhesive.

I didnt have much luck with the Permatex adhesive. Maybe I wasn't patient enough or something
I found the Toyota kits to work very well.
